'A World in One Country'

A first this year will be Garden World’s very own ‘A World In One Country’. An exhibit which will feature settings of flora from The Table Mountain National Park in the Western Cape, Coffee Bay on the Wild Coast of the Eastern Cape, The Arderne Gardens with its shady glades, romantic nooks and ponds in Claremont in the Western Cape and a farm scene in Namaqualand in the Northern Cape.


Garden 7 - A Measure of FormalityGarden 7 - A Measure of FormalityA ‘Sense of Place’ is the theme for this year’s Spring Festival at Garden World from Friday July 27 to Sunday September 2. The challenge to landscapers creating the 17 show gardens is to design gardens with mood, atmosphere and personal style. Participating landscapers include last year’s People’s Choice winner, Lizette Nieman of Strylitzia Landscapes, and other gold medal winners as well as new landscapers. The popular children’s gardens will be featured as well as display gardens by Rand Water and the SA National Botanical Gardens.

With the proper care and a favourable rootstock, a citrus tree is capable of producing fruit in excess of 50 years!

Citrus trees can be so pretty, even in the smallest of gardens. They have gorgeous shiny green leaves, beautiful sweet-smelling flowers, and wonderful health-giving fruit packed with vitamin C and antioxidants. The genus Citrus is native to south-east Asia, occurring from northern India to China and south through Malaysia, the East Indies and the Philippines, and records of domestication go back to about 500 BC.

The Saucer Magnolia is a magnificent tree or large shrub and one of the most sought after ornamentals.

Saucer Magnolia, Persmagnolia (Magnolia x soulangiana) Magnolias have a long history as magnificent additions to the garden, no matter the time of year, but especially in late winter and spring when their naked branches are festooned with startling cup, or saucer-shaped flowers.

Virginian stocks are probably one of the easiest of all plants to grow from seed, thriving in part shade to full sun.

Cauliflower has been around for a very long time and its history and ancestry can be traced back to the wild cabbage, and its similarities with kale or collards.
