Everyone loves a good container garden recipe filled with brightly-coloured blooms. The container shown here was created by the design and production experts at Ball Horticultural Company, and then the combination was trialed to make sure it will work for you.

This recipe is ideal for larger pots (+-50cm) and will thrive in full sun. If you cannot get the named varieties below, select a substitute from the many gorgeous varieties available at your local garden centre.

Use a good well-drained potting soil and remember that container plants in full sun will dry out very quickly, especially on warm or windy days and need to be checked daily; aim to keep the soil moist but not soggy; Consider adding water-retaining granules to the soil before potting, to help reduce the chore of watering. Deadhead the plants often and feed with a liquid fertiliser regularly.

The Recipe:

Ideal for a 50cm container.

C = Creeping Jenny (Lysimachia nummularia Goldilocks) A spreading lime green foliage brightens any mixed container or landscape.

D = Petunia (Rhythm And Blues Petunia) An eye-catching petunia with blue flowers with a white rim are early-flowering and will fill in baskets and planters quickly.
