The strong lines in the structure of the gazebo, timber decking, timber slats on the benches and on the walls create movement and rhythm.

The charcoal colour used on the gazebo structure and the planter wall coping, give this contemporary garden an industrial design feel.

The bold use of the primary colours of red and yellow represent bubbles spurting out of the wall which adds excitement to the garden.

The cooler mauve and blue colours of the plants tone down the garden creating a much needed balance.

The lower seating area consists of benches cladded with timber slats and overlooks a water feature (encased in a table), which creates a soothing and relaxing sound effect.

Grow, harvest and relish your own foodGrow, harvest and relish your own foodGrow, harvest and relish your own food

This is a small courtyard garden that fulfils the aspirations of an outdoor living-room. Not only can you take pleasure in the outdoor living that a patio offers, but also grow, harvest and relish your food. Delight in the change of seasons evident in the plant choices; which use colour as the main inspiration.

The theme of ‘revamping’ the old design into a new space is the backbone of this design, for example, the bottom two tiers of the original water-feature have been transformed into planter boxes and copied in two other quadrants.

A centrepiece with a pebble designed detail, will serve as a decorative base for the seating area. Mosaic, containers, obelisks and ornaments are used to add to the colour theme, in addition to the annuals, perennials, roses, herbs and veggies used.

Blue, being the colour of the sky and the sea is often used to represent images which have a calming effect on the psyche. Yellow stimulates the mental processes and nervous system and shines with optimism, enlightenment and happiness.

Mixing the two colours you get the colour green - the colour of life, renewal, nature, and energy, associated with meanings of growth, harmony, freshness, safety, and environment.

The use of raised beds creates different levels in the garden which effectively make the small spaces appear larger. The borrowed scenery beyond the garden gives a wonderful sense of extended garden space.

The “Destress Hour” theme was inspired by the office environment that lacks mental stimulation because of overwhelming workload and little exposure to nature.

This garden will introduce the concept of how the environment can help calm and ease stress for employees by just spending an hour in the garden.

The main feature highlighted in this garden is the abstract mural on the wall that will bring about a visual calming effect. A bamboo inspired water-feature allows water to trickle down and create a relaxing atmosphere.

A minimalist feel is created in the front but then your eye is immediately drawn to the forest set against the wall.
